Conway: Trump Expanding on Successes With Asia Trip

President Donald Trump has been developing relationships with leaders in South Korea, China, and Japan over the last year and is using his trip to Asia this week to build on the successes so far in his administration, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said Monday.

"One of the five major goals of this trip for the president is denuclearizing North Korea, and that happens with China and South Korea's help," Conway told Fox News' "Fox & Friends". "Also, he has trade very much on his mind."

Conway said many of the discussions between Trump and leaders such as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will remain private, but the meetings build "on what's been happening" and are a prelude to what will continue to happen.

"This is a president, whether he is here or abroad, constantly talking up the domestic agenda items that got him elected in the first place, which is to be more fair to the American worker and to be more fair to the American job creator," Conway said. "So, when you take together trade deals, you talk about that the tax cuts package he is putting forward, you look at all the regulations that have gone away through his pen and through some legislation, you start to see knitted together an economic agenda."

Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday in Vietnam, and Conway said the media will likely do a lot of "hand-wringing" over the event.

"They keep expecting things out of Trump that are conventional and are truly disappointed," she said, but she expects the conversation will continue on how Trump can work with Russia on issues such as "keeping ISIS on full-on retreat."
