Premiums under the Senate Republicans' healthcare plan would more than double for older Americans, according to a new analysis.
The Kaiser Family Foundation crunched the numbers and estimated that the Better Care Reconciliation Act would hit older Americans in the wallets.
Highlights from the analysis:
- Premiums for people aged 45-54 would go up 94 percent after tax credits.
- Premiums for people aged 55-64 would go up 115 percent after tax credits.
- Premiums for people aged 65 and older would go up 113 percent after tax credits.
- The average premium increase after tax credits for all age groups would be 74 percent.
The Congressional Budget Office released its assessment of the bill Monday and said as many as 22 million people would lose their health insurance coverage if the legislation is passed.
The House passed the American Health Care Act in May. The Senate altered the bill and changed its name to the Better Care Reconciliation Act before making it public last week.
Republican senators hope to put the bill up for a floor vote Thursday.
