McFarland Hints at Departure From Deputy Position

Deputy National Security Adviser K.T. McFarland hinted Sunday morning that her job could be changing soon, but she refused comment about when that would happen and what the changes will entail.

"The president and I have had a number of conversations over the last two months really about what my role would continue to be and where I could be best used for what his vision is in foreign policy," McFarland, a former Fox News analyst, told "Fox News Sunday" anchor Chris Wallace. "I can tell you, we talked about it again last night, and there are changes coming. But I’m not going to tell you what they are. You got enough secrets out of me this day."

She also refuted Wallace's statement that she was brought in by former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who left office amid concerns about his connections with a Russian ambassador.

"First of all, President [Donald] Trump hired me and he gave me a call on Thanksgiving Day to ask me to be the deputy national security advisor, so I want to set that straight," said McFarland. "Now, Gen. Flynn has departed and Gen. [H.R.] McMaster has arrived. I helped through that transition."

Last week, sources reported that McFarland had been asked to step down from her deputy role and accept a position as the U.S. ambassador to Singapore. Her departure would come as McMaster puts his own touch on the National Security Council.

Earlier in April, Trump pulled White House Chief strategist Steve Bannon from the National Security Council's principals committee.
