Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch is suing the Department of State to learn more information about the Podesta Group and its alleged dealings with Ukraine.

In response to reports last month that claimed Tony Podesta, the brother of Hillary Clinton's former campaign manager John Podesta, is part of the Russia investigation, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act request for several records.

Among the items Judicial Watch has requested are communication records that show contact between the Podesta Group and the State Department and any records related to the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly investigating the Podesta Group for violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is also tied up in the Russia probe and did work for Ukraine without registering as a foreign agent.

"Mueller's special counsel operation seems more interested in the alleged foreign ties of the Trump Team, rather than Hillary Clinton's associates," Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said. "Judicial Watch aims to figure out the truth of what exactly the Podesta Group was doing with the Obama State Department."

The Russia probe has resulted in a trio of indictments thus far: Manafort, his former business associate Rick Gates, and former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos.
