President Donald Trump's legal team will this weekend file its "very substantive defense" on articles of impeachment that were transferred to the Senate Thursday, and is ready to fight back against charges that are "purely political," team member Jordan Sekulow said Friday.

"We'll be filing our answer, that's a shorter document but still very significant, tomorrow, Saturday and then either on Sunday or Monday, we'll be filing our brief," Sekulow, the executive director of the American Center for Law and Justice, said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

The combined documents will defend Trump, the office of the president, and Article II powers "for future presidents," said Sekulow.

With the procedures moving to the Senate, Trump's side also will be able to present its case, said Sekulow, which it could not do during the House inquiry hearings.

"House Republicans did about as good of a job, a great job, as they could...this time around, both sides are going to get the same amount of time."

Democrats, meanwhile, will have a "very uphill battle" to get 67 members of Senate to agree on impeachment with these 'two weak articles of impeachment that are so partisan, that don't even include a criminal charge."

Sekulow also criticized comments from Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-NY, who warned Republicans in the Senate not to be "part of the coverup."

"You don't, as the prosecutors, which is what they are, go in and tell the jury, hey, we're putting you on trial," Sekulow said. "That's not who's on trial. The judge is not on trial, and it's pure partisan politics. Remember, Nadler ran for Judiciary chair, amongst Democrats, saying he'd be the best to impeach the president."

Further, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff is the lead House manager on the impeachment, even though he "lied about his contact with the whistleblower" whose report led to the impeachment.

"This is purely politics, but we're ready to mount a full defense of the president, the Constitution, and we're ready for our actual due process," said Sekulow. "We've been ready for this, the whole time. We shouldn't be there, we shouldn't have to be there, this president should never have been impeached, but we're ready to go and we have been ready to go."
