Fired White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci's claims that Washington's political class wants President Donald Trump out of the White House is a "leap of rhetoric" that takes it too far, former Chief of Staff John Sununu said Monday.

"There is always competition in Washington," Sununu, who served under President George W. Bush, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program. "What a lot of these folks don't understand is the system is designed to have strong levels of tension. The Constitution has tension between the legislative branch and the executive branch. It has tension between the states and the federal government and all the governments and the people. It is built that way. "

That art is, said Sununu, to learn to work with the tension and get things done.

Scaramucci, who was fired less than two weeks after he was hired, still remains loyal to Trump, and told ABC's "This Week" that people want to "eject" Trump as it is "almost like he opened up the door for America's CEOs and America's billionaires to get in Washington and the political establishment does not like that."

"I think some of these billionaires that Scaramucci is talking about [are finding] it's easier to make a billion dollars than to do something significant and meaningful in terms of national policy," said Sununu.

The former chief of staff also said he does not think it was a constructive move for Scaramucci to question Trump's comments on the violence that shook Charlottesville, Virginia during the weekend.

"This is the world that we live in today," said Sununu. "The Washington shows on Sunday look for the most controversial folks they can gather to get ratings and Scaramucci got sucked into the ratings game."

Sununu said he does think Trump deserves credit for getting China to the do something to put pressure on North Korea.

"Secondly, the second part of the issue is that the president has been unwinding the actions by the executive of the previous administration and that's important," he said. "I don't want the president to get into the same rut of trying to govern by executive order. He has to start moving big issues and big issues require big legislation."
