Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, predicted there will be a "criminal referral" as a result of a report on fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe misleading investigators about the agency's probe of the Clinton Foundation.

Ratcliff's remarks came Monday in an interview on Fox News.

The news network said an inspector general's report claims McCabe had authorized a leak about the investigation to The Wall Street Journal. He later misled investigators about the leak, according to the report.

"If I were to make a prediction, I would expect there to be a criminal referral in this matter," Ratcliffe said. "I would expect that Andrew McCabe will be facing the same types of charges that Michael Flynn, Rick Gates and George Papadopoulos are facing."

"This is the Department of Justice investigating itself and finding misconduct on not one, not two, not three, but four different occasions — some of those under oath."

And Ratcliffe added he believes the case will be a "prosecutable crime."

According to Fox News, the report states: "We concluded that McCabe's decision to confirm the existence of the (Clinton Foundation) investigation through an anonymously sourced quote, recounting the content of a phone call with a senior department official in a manner designed to advance his personal interests at the expense of department leadership, was clearly not within the public interest exception."

Earlier on Monday, President Donald Trump had tweeted that fired FBI Director James Comey, McCabe and the others "committed many crimes."
