President Donald Trump failed to address human rights during his visit in Da Nang, Vietnam, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., tweeted Saturday.

Human Rights Watch describes Vietnam as “dire in all areas” of human rights. The government has jailed and convicted a number of bloggers and activists for dissent, and is holding others without trial.

McCain was captured and tortured by the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. A bipartisan group of 20 House members earlier this week urged Trump to discuss Vietnam’s human rights record, according to a report in The New York Times.

But the president told reporters he is also focusing on addressing “many other things” during his 12-day, five nation whirlwind tour of Asia.

“Well, I do. But I also raise issues on many other things. I mean, I have an obligation — we lost, last year, with China, depending on the way you do your numbers, because you can do them a [number of ways] — anywhere from $350 [billion] to $504 billion. That's with one country. I’m going to fix that,” he said.

“And I've got to fix what we have with Mexico, who was there today too, who I also have a very good relationship with,” the president added.
