The House Intelligence Committee issued a second subpoena Wednesday for an associate of Arizona Sen. John McCain regarding the unverified Russian dossier on President Donald Trump, according to news reports Wednesday.

David Kramer, a former State Department official, is a senior fellow at the McCain Institute for International Leadership at Arizona State University, The Washington Examiner reports.

The House panel, headed by California Republican Rep. Devin Nunes, was interested in talking further with Kramer about his visit in late November 2016 to London to receive a briefing and a copy of the dossier from former British spy Christopher Steele.

Kramer then returned to the U.S. and gave the document to McCain.

McCain, the six-term Republican who is recovering from brain cancer treatments, later sent a copy of the dossier to then-FBI Director James Comey.

The agency, however, already had the document because Steele had given it to the FBI in installments, beginning the previous July, the Examiner reports.

Kramer was first interviewed by the House Intelligence Committee on Dec. 19. The new subpoena is the result of statements he made in that session, according to the report.

Kramer first told House investigators that he knew the identities of the Russians behind the allegations in Steele's document, the Examiner reports.

But when he was pressed to do so, Kramer refused.

The second subpoena requires him to appear before the House panel on Jan. 11, according to the Examiner.

McCain has not provided detail regarding his actions with the dossier.
