An anti-Donald Trump ad released in November by the John Kasich campaign has seen new life on social media in recent days as Kasich, the Ohio governor, skipped last week's Republican National Convention in Cleveland at which Trump was formally nominated.
In the ad, as reported on at the time by
The Washington Post, retired Air Force Col. Tom Moe is seen addressing a crowd and invoking the words of German pastor Martin Niemöller after World War II in which he warned he never spoke up for Jews, Communists and trade unionists, but "then they came for me" and no one was left to speak up for him.
"You might not care if Donald Trump says Muslims should register with their government, because you're not one," Moe says in the ad. "And you might not care if Donald Trump says he's going to round up all the Hispanic immigrants, because you're not one. And you might not care if Donald Trump says it's OK to rough up black protesters, because you're not one. And you might not care if Donald Trump wants to suppress journalists, because you're not one. But think about this: If he keeps going, and he actually becomes president, he might just get around to you. And you better hope there's someone left to help you."
Trump has in recent days said
he'd consider forming a super PAC to fight any future election plans of Kasich, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and one other person whom he did not name.
