China needs more action to follow up on its long-stated desires for North Korea to curb its nuclear weapons program, but if China does not follow through, "the United States may have to act on its own," former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton said.

"The Chinese for 25 years have said they don't want North Korea to have nuclear weapons, but they've done precious little to actually stop them," Bolton told Sunday's "The Cats Roundtable" host John Catsimatidis, per The Hill.

President Donald Trump is currently on a 12-day trip through Asia, which includes stops in Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines. He is expected to weigh and outline the United States' course of action in the region, both on trade and how to deal with the growing nuclear missile provocations of Kim Jung Un's North Korea regime against the United States.

China is the key in any diplomatic solution, because of its relationship with North Korea.

"Our president's got to deliver a tough message to [Chinese President] Xi Jinping," Bolton told Catsimatidis, according to the The Hill. "Either we work together to denuclearize North Korea, or the United States may have to act on its own."
