Joe Biden will likely name his White House chief of staff sometime this week, multiple sources told ABC News on Wednesday.
ABC notes that the former vice president’s one-time chief of staff Ron Klain, who headed the Obama administration's response to the Ebola virus outbreak in 2014, is at the top of the list of possible choices. He previously worked for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign as a senior adviser, followed by a period at the investment firm Revolution LLC.
Biden’s other former chiefs of staff, Steve Richetti and Bruce Reed are also in contention, though both have been criticized by progressives. Richetti, who also chaired the Biden campaign, is a former lobbyist, while Reed is the founder and chief executive of the public policy firm Civic.
Biden said earlier this week that he plans to begin naming members of his administration, starting with the Cabinet, later this month.
"Look, one of the things that I would do as President-elect and when I become president is lay out to Republicans as well as the Democrats who we intend to name for each Cabinet position," Biden said on Tuesday.
"I hope we're able to be in a position to let people know, at least a couple that we want before Thanksgiving and we'll just work this out. Look, I am -- I am not a pessimist."
