Debbie Wasserman Schultz would be helping Trump if she speaks at the Democratic National Convention, MSNBC's "Morning Joe"
host Joe Scarborough said.
from members of the Democratic National Committee appear to show the party showing favoritism toward Hillary Clinton and against Bernie Sanders. The revelation of those emails led to Wasserman Schultz announcing she would step down from being chairwoman of the committee.
Sanders supporters called on Wasserman Schultz to exit the job immediately.
"Why would Debbie Wasserman Schultz want to help Donald Trump?" Scarborough asked his panel. "Because that's all she's doing, by getting in the way of Hillary Clinton," the host added.
Scarborough said that Wasserman Schultz would be likely to earn a negative crowd reaction if she carries through with plans to open and close the convention.
"You're going to make Ted Cruz look like Miss Congeniality," Scarborough said, referring to the former Republican presidential candidate's speech
at the Republican National Convention in which the audience jeered him.
Scarborough said he does not understand the idea of letting Wasserman Schultz speak. "I think it's political malpractice on the Clinton camp," he said.
He said the Democrats must be focused only on getting Hillary Clinton elected.
The Hill reported
that Clinton's allies have been saying Wasserman Schultz should have no role at the convention. "It's causing the distraction no one wanted," one ally said.
Wasserman Schultz has already gotten a negative reaction from a crowd before the Democratic convention begins. At a meeting with delegates, some members of the audience booed and yelled "fair elections," The New York Times reported.
