Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., tweeted Republican lawmakers in his state should work together to end an ongoing teachers strike that has closed the state's public schools.

In another tweet, he said "political gamesmanship" was preventing lawmakers from working together to solve the issue.

The governor and teachers' union reached an agreement to end the strike that began Feb. 22 over low wages and rising health insurance costs. The deal included a 5-percent pay raise, but the state Senate voted to cut out the pay raise, The Hill reported.

The strike is affecting almost 277,000 students and 35,000 employees.
