President Donald Trump said Wednesday that New York Rep. Joe Crowley "got his a– kicked" in his Democratic primary Tuesday by a 28-year-old Bernie Sanders supporter "who had a lot of energy."

"Last night, we had a great evening," Trump told a rally in Fargo, North Dakota, for Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer, who is facing Democratic incumbent Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in November.

"We watched that television — and we were winning left and right," Trump said. "They didn't know what the hell happened.

"One of my biggest critics, a man named Joe Crowley, got his a– kicked by a young woman who had a lot of energy.

"She had a lot of energy," the president said. "I guess he didn't see it."

Political newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 28, beat Crowley, 57 percent to 42 percent, in a race where she was outspent by an 18-1 margin.

Ocasio-Cortez is a Boston University graduate and community organizer in the Bronx who worked on Bernie Sanders campaign in 2016.

Crowley, 56, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, was first elected in 1998. He was considered a candidate for House speaker if the Democrats took back the majority in November.

He represents New York's 14th Congressional District, which includes parts of the Bronx and Queens.

Crowley has not lost a race since he was first elected.

Trump also noted Wednesday that Republican Rep. Dan Donovan won his primary, also in New York, against former congressman Mike Grimm.

He endorsed Donovan on Twitter last month.

But Trump took great joy in Crowley's loss — tweeting "Wow!" on Tuesday — and basking further in Fargo.

"He spent a lot of money," the president said. "He had a lot of money left over.

"He was going to take Nancy Pelosi's place," he added, referring to the California Democrat and current minority leader who has said she would seek the speakership if the party retakes the chamber.

"I was so disappointed, because I want to keep Nancy Pelosi right where she is with Maxine Waters," Trump said. "I want to keep Nancy Pelosi."

Waters, another Golden State representative, has called for the harassment of Trump administration employees and staff.

"I make a plea to it my Democrat friends: Please, please, please, don't remove Nancy Pelosi," Trump said. "She should be where she is."
