A key organizer for the liberal voting group "White Dudes for Harris" is refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena from Jim Jordan, R-Ohio., over allegations of collusion with his firm and Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan.
"I am objecting to the subpoena issued by Jim Jordan and the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee in its entirety. This subpoena serves no legitimate legislative purpose —making it invalid, unconstitutional, and unenforceable," posted Authentic Campaign CEO Mike Nellis on X Friday.
The issue at hand is the alleged conflict of interest stemming from work Loren Merchan did as president of Authentic Campaigns, a top Democratic digital marketing firm. Loren is the daughter of Judge Merchan, who is overseeing former President Donald Trump’s trial in New York over the improper filing of business documents. Last month Jordan requested that Nellis sit for a deposition with the company as well as sign a sworn affidavit that Authentic Campaigns never had any contact with Judge Merchan.
Neil attached a copy of a letter from his lawyers which read, "Authentic’s work is in no way connected to former President Trump’s legal proceedings in New York," and that the company "has had no role, involvement, or influence whatsoever in those proceedings."
"Your repeated insinuations to the contrary, and your argument that Judge Merchan may not have been impartial in presiding over former President Trump’s proceedings because of Authentic’s 'work on behalf of President Trump’s political adversaries and the possible financial benefit that Ms. Merchan and Authentic Campaigns received from the prosecution and conviction of President Trump,' is as baseless as it is dangerous," the letter continues.
The younger Merchan also refused to provide documents Jordan had requested regarding to Authentic Campaign’s work with the Biden-Harris reelection campaign. "At a minimum, there is a perception that you and Authentic Campaigns could profit considerably from President Trump's prosecution in a forum overseen by your father," Jordan wrote to Loren Merchan in August.
