Rep. Jordan: Don't Replace Obamacare With the Same Thing

Fox News' "Fox & Friends"

Obamacare needs to repealed, but not replaced with a plan that keeps some parts like Medicaid expansions or refundable tax credit, Rep. Jim Jordan said Tuesday.

"We are saying let's repeal it and put the same legislation on President [Donald] Trump's desk that we put on [former] President [Barack] Obama's desk, and replace Obamacare with a patient-centered, family centered, doctored-centered plan not what we have currently, which is Washington in control," the Ohio Republican told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"That's what we told the voters we needed to do. Not some plan that says 'oh, we are going to repeal it but keep Medicaid expansion.' Repeal but keep, that's not the plan we told them."

Jordan said that he, like several other GOP lawmakers, has faced angry crowds in his home district, and that's fine, as people were exercising their First Amendment rights.

"The protest that matters most is the one that took place on Nov. 8, where Americans said we want you to get rid of this law and replace it with us that empowers us," said Jordan.

There are several plans being discussed by House members, including one from Speaker Paul Ryan, and Jordan said it's been leaked that the plan includes keeping Medicaid expansion and the refundable tax credit, but that's not what voters have been told.

"Voters say they hate when you say one thing at election time and come to this town and do something else," said Jordan. "They expect President Trump to do something. Is he doing it now? They expect Congress to do the same thing. We have to do what the voters want us to do, sent us here to do."

Trump has been leading on executive orders, said Jordan, and he thinks he'll also deliver on repealing and replacing Obamacare, and other big-ticket items on the GOP agenda as well, including tax reform and securing the border. Further, the lawmaker said he expects Trump to deliver that message in his first congressional joint address Tuesday.
