Rep. Jim Jordan: Trump 'Not Subverting Law' Like Obama Did

CNN "New Day" host Chris Cuomo on Friday sparred with Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, over President Donald Trump's use of executive orders to further his political policies.

Cuomo tried to throw Jordan's own words back at him, asking, "Why aren't you saying the president is acting like an emperor and his job is to execute laws that are passed, not write his own?"

Jordan once said that President Barack Obama "is not an emperor; his job is to execute laws that are passed, not write his own," after the Democrat issued an executive order on immigration.

The congressman's immediate response was to avoid Cuomo's question about Trump's executive orders and instead defend congressional Republicans for working on legislative solutions.

Cuomo and Jordan quickly entered a heated discussion over the legality of Obamacare, and specifically CRS payments. Jordan did say eventually that Trump's orders are "consistent with the Constitution," and that he approves of this particular measure because it helps satisfy the GOP's vow on healthcare.

"He is not subverting a law. He is stopping unconstitutional payments to insurance companies who have had record numbers the last few months. … Let's keep our word. Let's do what we said. That's what the president is focused on, that's what I'm focused on, that's what the Freedom Caucus is focused on."
