As states begin to reopen, Rep. Jim Jordan, said Congress should be able to go back to work on Capitol Hill.
“Farmers are planting crops, truckers are moving goods, grocers are stocking shelves, and front-line healthcare workers have never stopped working. They’ve been working every single day throughout this crisis but, somehow, the U.S. Congress can’t come back to work,” the Republican lawmaker from Ohio told Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom” on Wednesday. “I don’t know why we are not back doing the work of the American people.”
Congress was scheduled to return to work on May 4. That plan has been scrapped.
“Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi won’t call us back,” Jordan said.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., expressed similar frustrations during an interview Tuesday on the "The Ingraham Angle."
He said it is wrong for the Democrats to keep the House of Representatives out of session for the near future.
"I think the American people deserve leaders who will work day in and day out for them," McCarthy said.
He said he sent Pelosi a letter suggesting ways to keep Congress open safely.
