California Gov. Jerry Brown compared President Donald Trump's supporters to cave dwellers during a climate change event Monday.
Brown was speaking about Trump's policies regarding North Korea and climate change before delivering a shot to voters who backed the real estate mogul for president last year.
"They're both kind of very similar," said Brown, Politico reported. "You should check out the derivation of 'Trump-ite' and 'troglodyte' because they both refer to people who dwell in deep, dark caves."
Here's the definition of troglodyte, according to Merriam-Webster:
"A member of any of various peoples (as in antiquity) who lived or were reputed to live chiefly in caves" … or "a person characterized by reclusive habits or outmoded or reactionary attitudes."
Brown made the comment in New York City during the Opening Ceremony at Climate Week NYC 2017. Trump is also in the Big Apple attending the United Nations General Assembly.
Brown has been outspoken about his opposition to Trump's policies and ideas. For example, after Trump announced he would withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement, Brown made public his plans to hold a climate summit in San Francisco.
In March, Brown said Trump should not "mess with California, because you're going to mess with the economy, and that could blow up in your face in a gigantic recession and roll the Republicans right out of this town."
