Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., says the House Judiciary Committee has started official impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is cooperating with the investigation.

"This is formal impeachment proceedings," Nadler told CNN’s Erin Burnett during an appearance on "OutFront."

"We are investigating all the evidence, we're gathering the evidence, and we will at the conclusion of this, hopefully by the end of the year, vote to, vote articles of impeachment to the House floor or we won't. That's a decision that we'll have to make. But that — that's exactly the process we're in right now."

Nadler listed former White House counsel Don McGahn as the key fact witness who "testified to (special counsel Robert) Mueller that he witnessed at least 10 instances of criminal obstruction of justice by the president."

The House is still attempting to get McGahn to testify and filed suit Wednesday arguing the committee needs to hear from him as it is essential to their investigation.

Pelosi had shown reluctance to start impeachment proceedings, calling the idea premature.

Nadler, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, also said the panel is considering formally recommending articles of impeachment against Trump.
