Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said on CNN Wednesday it's clear to him that President Donald Trump obstructed justice during his conversations with now former FBI Director James Comey.
Toobin appeared on a CNN panel after a preview of Comey's testimony was released and discussed the matter regarding Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who was fired for lying to the administration about his prior dealings with Russia.
"There is a criminal investigation going on of one of the president's top associates," Toobin said. "His former national security adviser. One of the handful of most important people in the government. He gets fired. He's under criminal investigation and the president brings in the FBI director and says, 'please stop your investigation.'
"If that isn't obstruction of justice, I don't know what is."
Mediaite posted a clip of Toobin's remarks.
Comey will answer questions in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday. The highly anticipated session is expected to cover Comey's interactions with Trump, who fired Comey last month.
Several investigations into whether Trump and/or members of his team had improper ties to Russia are ongoing, including one at the FBI. The Department of Justice appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller a special counsel to oversee the probe.
