Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday praised his No. 2 at the Justice Department, telling a Maryland gathering that "you know we have a great deputy attorney general."
Rod Rosenstein introduced Sessions at the National Summit on Crime Reduction and Public Safety in Bethesda, Md.
"Rod, thank you for those kind words and for your leadership, and your decades-long commitment to fighting crime and seeking justice," Sessions began.
"I read what he had written about crime as a United States attorney in Baltimore. I like what he said and come to know him, and you know we have a great deputy attorney general," Sessions said.
The plaudits from Sessions comes a few days after President Donald Trump blasted Rosenstein in the much-scrutinized tweet that seemed to confirm he was under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, appointed by Rosenstein.
