Sen. Jeff Flake said he will not support President Donald Trump's pick to head the refugee bureau within the State Department, Ronald Mortensen.

Flake, R-Ariz., linked to a Politico story detailing Mortensen's anti-immigrant views.

Trump plucked Mortensen from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), a conservative think tank, to head up the State Department's Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration. CIS takes a hard stance on immigration issues.

So hard that the leftist Southern Poverty Law Center has deemed CIS a hate group.

In the story Flake linked to from his tweet, Politico cited this passage from Mortensen on CIS' site about protections for DACA recipients who need to be convicted of crimes to lose those protections.

"This means that Dreamer gang-bangers, Dreamer identity thieves, Dreamer sexual predators, Dreamers who haven't paid income taxes, and Dreamers committing a wide range of other crimes all qualify for DACA status as long as they haven't been convicted of their crimes," Politico quoted Mortensen.

With Flake's non-support and the absence of Sen. John McCain, Mortensen's confirmation looks iffy at best; he's not likely to garner any support from Senate Democrats.

"Mr. Mortensen’s racist, vile and disparaging comments against immigrants and refugees disqualify him from serving our government in any capacity," Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley said in a statement last week.
