Former Florida Republican Gov. Jeb Bush simultaneously sped up and slowed down the process of a possible run for the White House when he announced on Tuesday he was looking into entering the race, Robert Gibbs, former press secretary to President Barack Obama, told MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"I think in some ways he sped up the process to slow it down. And, what I mean by that is, I think a lot of people, including Jeb, were thinking about it, maybe not knowing exactly how serious he was about thinking about it. Now he said he's very serious about it.

"I think he sort of paused probably thousands of big money and big activists in saying, 'Hey, I am really doing the due diligence. This is a big deal. It's important to me. Hold on until you hear back from me,' " Gibbs said Wednesday.

Bush made the announcement Tuesday on Facebook where he wrote he would "actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States."

He also posted the same message on Twitter where he wrote he was "excited" to make the announcement about a potential run for the presidency.
