Sen. Rockefeller Rips Paul Ryan's Budget Plan

Democrats’ anger at Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan is so strong it borders on “sheer astonishment that any human being could actually do this,” according to a senior senator.

“We're going to fight like crazy,” Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia said on Capitol Hill, The Weekly Standard reports.

Rockefeller, scion of one of the wealthiest families in the world, claimed that Ryan’s plan would cut the size of the federal government by 40 percent. He also attacked Republicans’ plans for giving “more income tax cuts for the super rich.”

“I can’t believe that somebody who actually goes into public service would do something like that,” Rockefeller, chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation added.

Rockefeller said Democrats are united in their opposition to Ryan’s plan. “I’ve never seen so much anger, so much unity, so much sheer astonishment that any human being could actually do this.”

Wisconsin Rep. Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman, last week announced his plan to cut $6 trillion over 10 years with major overhauls of Medicare and Medicaid.

Ryan called his plan “a budget that creates economic growth.” He added: “It is a budget to pay off our national debt. It is a budget to get our fiscal track on the right track.”
