The chairman of the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform vowed to give the FBI formal authority to investigate Hillary Clinton's congressional testimony about her email practices for evidence of perjury, making the statement during agency director James Comey's appearance before the committee Thursday, Breitbart reports.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, asked Comey to verify that Clinton lied under oath when she testified that she didn't send or receive classified information over her private email server. The FBI chief said he needed a referral from Congress to investigate the matter.

"You'll have one," Chaffetz said. "You'll have one in the next few hours."

Additionally, Clinton signed a sworn statement in 2015, obtained by CNN, that reads in part: "While I do not know what information may be 'responsive' for purposes of this law suit, I have directed that all my e-mails on clintonemail.com in my custody that were or potentially were federal records be provided to the Department of State, and on information and belief, this has been done."

Comey was asked if he knew with 100 percent certainty that all work-related emails were turned over, and that there was no classified information on any of the 30,000 personal emails that were deleted by Clinton's lawyers.

"I don't have 100 percent confidence," Comey replied. "I'm really confident some of them were classified. There were only three in the entire batch we found that bore any markings that indicated they were classified, so that's less likely but surely it's a reasonable assumption that some of the ones they deleted contain classified information."
