Former Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano on Thursday said "dreamers" are "caught between a rock and a hard place."

Under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program undocumented immigrants who "were brought to the United States as young children," as Napolitano said on CNN's "New Day," could apply for protection against deportation. President Donald Trump announced in September that his administration will end the program next year.

This week, a federal judge in California ordered the Trump administration to turn over records of the deliberation that went into the decision by Oct. 27.

Napolitano, who served in former President Barack Obama's administration and is currently the president of the University of California, said Thursday that her organization "sued the Trump administration for repealing the policy because we contend that the administration violated the administrative procedures act and the due process clause of the Constitution. And we seek to vindicate those rights in the court."

She also spoke out against claims that "DACA was somehow a magnet for illegal immigration," saying that "there is absolutely no data to support" this claim, and that "the numbers show that illegal immigration to the country is at its lowest in decades."
