Defense Secretary James Mattis is regularly rejecting requests by aides to President Donald Trump to appear on TV's "Fox & Friends," The New York Times reported.
Administration aides have been calling the Pentagon weekly suggesting Mattis go on the Fox News morning show, "but to no avail," according to the Times.
Mattis is increasingly trying to avoid situations that could put him on the spot, the Times noted. However, he does distinguish from requests by Trump and those coming from administration aides.
But he does his best to stay out of political issues.
Meanwhile, Trump has gone out of his way to praise "Fox & Friends" and even tweeted about it after the show's coverage of fired FBI Director James Comey's testimony in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee, The Hill reported.
Trump's daughter, Ivanka, appeared on the show on Monday.
Mattis is scheduled to appear before the Senate and House Armed Services Committees this week and give lawmakers the chance to ask him about a range of issues, according to the Hill.
