Fired Obama-era FBI Director James Comey tweeted a scathing rebuke of the current White House standoff with the FBI on the release of the House Intelligence Committee's FISA memo, writing "in the long run, weasels and liars never hold the field."
Comey's tweet comes amid reports FBI Director Christopher Wray might consider resigning if the White House approves the release of a memo authored by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., which reportedly alleges Obama administration abuses of a FISA warrant to surveil members of President Donald Trump's campaign and transition team.
The FBI Agents Association issued a statement via Twitter, supporting a strong stance by the FBI and Wray against the memo's release.
Comey's reference to McCathy in his tweet refers to 1950's anti-communist hysteric, former Sen. Joseph McCarthy, R-Wis., who once alleged an assistant to a Boston attorney for the U.S. Army had Communist ties, as Vanity Fair wrote.
