White House Chief of Staff John Kelly reportedly told James Comey that President Donald Trump was a 'dishonorable' leader after the commander in chief fired Comey as FBI director last May.

The Daily Beast, which says it obtained a leaked detail from Comey’s upcoming memoir, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership," reports:

"Kelly, Comey recalls, said he was 'sick' about the situation and 'intended to quit' in protest. Kelly ‘said he didn’t want to work for dishonorable people,' referring specifically to President Donald Trump, who appeared to be upset at the FBI’s persistent investigation into his campaign’s possible collusion with Russian officials.

"According to sources, Comey writes in his book that he encouraged Kelly to remain in his post, saying "this president," more than his predecessors, needed people of principle and integrity around him."

The Daily Beast’s report by Lachlan Markay and Asawin Suebsaeng, was based on accounts by two sources who have read the book.

Comey’s tome, which has been kept under wraps, will be published Tuesday by Flatiron Books.
