Former FBI Director James Comey said Thursday "it sure looks like" there is enough evidence to prosecute President Donald Trump for obstruction of justice contained in special counsel Robert Mueller's report.
In remarks at at a CNN Town Hall, Comey pointed to Mueller report details relating to former White House counsel Donald McGahn.
"It sure looks like it's there with respect to at least a couple of those episodes of obstruction, the direction to Don McGahn to get the special counsel fired . . . is a flaming example of corrupt intent," Comey said.
He added "there's no doubt" Mueller's findings would have produced obstruction charges if Trump were not president.
"I actually think the ones that would most likely be charged aren't necessarily the ones that involved me," he said, explaining: "particularly this McGahn episode and another episode where he was trying to get the attorney general to limit the investigation to only future elections . . ."
The Town Hall was held on the 2-year anniversary of Comey's firing from the FBI by Trump. That move was one of 10 instances laid out in the Mueller report as possible obstruction of justice on the part of Trump.
In releasing a summary of the report in late March, Attorney General William Barr said he would not pursue an obstruction of justice charge against the president.
