Ivanka Trump denied German Chancellor Angela Merkel is using her friendly relationship with her as a conduit to her father, President Donald Trump.

"I think she sees me as a woman who is aligned with her on many issues," Trump told NBC's Hallie Jackson during an exclusive interview recorded in Berlin, where the first daughter, now officially a senior assistant to the president, was invited by Merkel to speak at a panel discussion.

"I think she has a great relationship with my father," Trump said.

The president is not a popular figure in Germany, Jackson said, mainly because of his call for a travel ban from several predominantly Muslim countries. The ban is in contrast with Germany's practice of opening its borders to Syrian refugees, noted Jackson, and Ivanka Trump made comments during the interview showing she is more open to allowing refugees to enter the United States.

"I think there is a global humanitarian crisis that's happening," she told Jackson. "We have to come together, and we have to solve it."

Further, she agreed opening the borders to Syrian refugees to enter the United States "has to be part of the discussion."

Trump also commented she hopes legislation is put together on policies she advocates such as expanded childcare and paid leave for parents.

In a portion of the interview released Tuesday, Trump said she was not happy about German newspapers' headlines calling her a "loyal accomplice" to her father. Before she arrived for the summit, the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung called her a "First Whisperer," raising questions about her White House role.

President Donald Trump's senior adviser and daughter Ivanka is not happy.

"I don't like the word 'accomplice' because in this context, I don't know that that's productive," she said. "One of the things that I value about my father, as first a businessman and now as the leader of our country, is that he curates ideas and he likes to hear from people with divergent viewpoints, and that's not always true in politics. It's actually seldom true."
