President Donald Trump, noting the Democrats' caucuses in Iowa are an "unmitigated disaster," said he's the only one able to actually claim "a very big victory" in the state.

Trump made his comments in an early morning tweet Tuesday.

He wrote: "The Democrat Caucus is an unmitigated disaster. Nothing works, just like they ran the Country. Remember the 5 Billion Dollar Obamacare Website, that should have cost 2% of that. The only person that can claim a very big victory in Iowa last night is 'Trump.'"

In a late night Monday tweet, he also thanked supporters for the "big win."

"Big WIN for us in Iowa tonight," he wrote. "Thank you!"

Trump was the near-unanimous winner of the Iowa Republican caucuses. The Des Moines Register reported he received only token opposition from two challengers.

The newspaper said that with 95% of Iowa counties reporting, Trump collected nearly 97% of the 26,484 votes cast.

Meanwhile, others argued the problems in compiling the Democrats' caucus tallies also was a win for the president.

And Bloomberg reported the timing could not have been any better for Trump, who is set to give his State of the Union address Tuesday night and could take the opportunity to note the Democrats' misstep in Iowa.

Bloomberg reported that so far, Trump appears to be the clearest winner in Iowa.

Despite the problems, Trump dismissed calls to make changes in the primary system to reduce Iowa's status, writing on Twitter:

"It is not the fault of Iowa, it is the Do Nothing Democrats fault. As long as I am President, Iowa will stay where it is. Important tradition!"

Further, he blasted Democrats, questions when the opposition party would try to shift blame for the Iowa disaster to Russia:

"When will the Democrats start blaming RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA, instead of their own incompetence for the voting disaster that just happened in the Great State of Iowa?"

Later, Trump praised the GOP for its smooth caucus process:

"The Democrat Party in Iowa really messed up, but the Republican Party did not. I had the largest re-election vote in the history of that great state, by far, beating President Obama’s previous record by a lot. Also, 97% Plus of the vote! Thank you Iowa!"
