A former Indiana state official who once supported Mike Pence as governor won't be backing the vice president's campaign ticket in the 2020 election, according to the Washington Examiner.

Former Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller will instead throw support behind Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

Between 2009 and 2017, Zoeller served as Indiana's attorney general, including a second term that overlapped with Pence's four-year term as governor.

Zoeller was considered a political friend to Pence, and in 2016 received the honorary title of Sagamore of the Wabash, a personal tribute usually given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or to the governo.

He has deep Republican roots, serving 10 years as an executive assistant to then- U.S. Senator Dan Quayle, then when Quayle became vice president.

Zoeller also ran for the Republican nomination in Indiana's 9th Congressional District in 2016.

Former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, who held the position from 2001 to 2013, is also backing Biden in this year's presidential election.
