ICE Chief Homan: Lawmakers Need to Do Their Job

By    |   Tuesday, 19 June 2018 01:55 PM

Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan on Tuesday rebuffed Democratic lawmakers over their indignant bloviating about the separation of families at the border, saying they should instead do their job.

A guest on Fox News' "America's Newsroom," Homan had a simple message for
Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and the rest of Congress - fix the system.

"I think the senator ought to spend more time trying to fix the problem rather than vilifying the brave men and women of Border Patrol and ICE," Homan said on Fox. "If she really wants to do her job, sit down and fix the system and close these loopholes. There's where she can help."

But Democrats would rather keep things the way they are so they have a campaign issue to run on in November.

"I don't think they wanna fix it," Homan said. "They want this issue out there rather than doing their job and fixing this issue."

Homan framed the situation of asylum-seekers:

They're mostly frivolous claims for asylum, migrants who are coached what to say including making false claims of being parents of children in the hopes they won't be detained.

Before the "zero tolerance" policy of President Donald Trump, that meant that illegals would wait for their hearing while in the country but never show up, resulting in "de facto amnesty, de facto open borders," Homan said, adding that 80 percent of those seeking asylum lose their cases because they're frivolous claims.

"We don't want to separate families either but the law's the law," Homan said. "Parents know that if you enter between the ports of entry, which is a crime, you will be separated. … Do the right thing, go the port of entry where you won't be separated."

Homan said there is a 300 percent increase of people claiming to be parents of children and they're not.
