Huckabee Lashes Out at UN Commission's Israel 'Nonsense' Report

Gov. Mike Huckabee on Friday lashed out at a report from a United Nations commission that accused Israel of imposing an "apartheid regime" against Palestinians, saying it's time for the U.S. to "quit funding this nonsense."

"It's an anti-Semitic report," the former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program. "That's nonsense. I've been going there since 1973, and I think I have a better handle on it than some of these goons that wrote this nonsense."

The sanctions movement is the real threat to the Palestinian people, said Huckabee, as it puts many people out of a job, "jobs for which they were paid four times what they would have made had they had any job in the Palestinian authority, that's what's really oppressive."

The report, issued by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) made the apartheid claims in a report Wednesday, according to Reuters. The group consists of representatives from 18 Arab states.

On Friday, the head of the group, U.N. Under-Secretary General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf, resigned from the United Nations after saying she had been pressured by U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to remove the report from the commission's website.

Nikki Haley, the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., commented that the United States would not put up with such harassment of Israel.

"We want them to understand there's a new administration in town," said Haley. "We won't put up with it and have the backs of Israel every time they do this. This is a [group] known to be against Israel and to come out with a report like that was ridiculous and it was just irresponsible."

Huckabee also commented on news reports concerning Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's words about North Korea, and President Donald Trump's tweet that the country was behaving "very badly."

"Tillerson and the president are playing it right," said Huckabee. "They're recognizing we're not going to have much influence over North Korea because they're led by a lunatic. The only entity that has any opportunity to put a lid on it is China. They lean on China and depend on China and China can put them in a half-nelson and explain how it's going to be done."

If the United States has to bring North Korea under control, "it's not going to be pretty," said Huckabee, and it's right to put China under pressure on the issue.

"You better get your little brother under control and sit on him tight, because otherwise we're not going to continue to let them threaten the world with nuclear devices," said Huckabee.

Haley has said North Korea is the No. 1 priority, and Huckabee agreed it "has to be."

"They already have nuclear devices and can't wait to find a good delivery system to use them," said Huckabee. "We have a real issue with Iran in the Middle East, but the North Koreans are led by a lunatic. You can't sit back and believe he's not serious [about] pulling the trigger on nations around him and the west."

Trump's toughness may change things, however, he said.

"We had years of a feckless-kind of administration that hemmed and hawed," said Huckabee. "The world needs to know we're not anxious to get into a confrontation but we won't back away from some pipsqueak who threatens the world, and not only South Korea and Japan, but threatens the United States with the possibility of nuclear war. We won't sit back and act like it doesn't matter. You bet it does."
