Huckabee Praises Trump, Lewandowski After Firing

Donald Trump's decision to fire campaign manager Corey Lewandowski showed that the presumptive GOP nominee made a decision to change the campaign as it is shifting in a "very different direction toward the general election," former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Tuesday, while praising Lewandowski for his response to the news.

"Look how classy Corey Lewandowski was yesterday," Huckabee, who dropped his own run for the nomination early in the primary season, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "He was absolutely, I thought, flawless in the way he departed the stage. That was the way it should have been. He's got a great future."

While Lewandowski served the campaign well, Huckabee said, Trump thought there was a need for new leadership, and he took that step. He also praised the presumptive nominee for his decisiveness.

"You know what I would like to see?" said Huckabee. "A president who would fire somebody when it was time to fire them. I would like to see a president who would fire somebody at the VA, at the IRS, at the DOJ . . . Instead, we've had an administration who won't fire anybody. [It] would be refreshing to see an executive who acted like one."

Huckabee further praised Trump for running a smaller campaign than that of presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, whose campaign he called "bloated," but still, he admitted that Trump does need more people in his campaign as well moving forward.
