If you already like Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, you probably loved her acceptance speech, but Mike Huckabee said Friday that if you are either "not a big fan" or you missed the "last 40 years of Clinton mania," you couldn't hear her words and think they were impressive.
"I didn't go to medical school, but I can diagnose Hillary's cough and clearing throat issue," the former Arkansas governor told
Fox Business Network's Maria Bartiromo. "Every time she is clearing her throat or coughing, she is coughing up another government giveaway."
"What we have seen with Hillary is we have gone from George Orwell's big brother to Hillary being 'big mother,'" he continued. "Let's make government as big as we can, as expensive as it can be and give away a lot of stuff, but somebody has got to pay for that."
Huckabee also said he didn't see any evidence of her being the "changemaker" her husband Bill talked about in his own speech.
"There was nothing fresh," he told Bartiromo. "A whole string of liberal cliches, everything from we are going to make sure you can get an abortion, we are going to do all the spending programs, we are going to give away a lot of stuff . . . [Her] positions have switched more often than the ping-pong ball in a Chinese ping-pong tournament."
Huckabee continued that Trump, who he has backed after dropping out of his own presidential race, has the "clarity of his own convictions," but Clinton takes the "same, different position on issues all over the board, whether it is war, trade, or law enforcement.
"We look for clarity of vision and hire people to carry out details," said Huckabee. "Donald Trump understands he is a good executive."
Huckabee said he also doesn't think Clinton had effective lines against Trump, or is "in a position to give a lecture on what honesty looks like," given her record," and people should not believe all she says as "so many things she says turn out to be outright falsehoods."
Baritromo also asked Huckabee about Trump's past business practices, including his bankruptcies in Atlantic City that left many businesses unpaid for their work, and admitted that she has a problem with his having not apologized.
"Hillary Clinton would make $250,000 for a 20 minute speech, but she can relate to the little guy," said Huckabee. "Every guy I know does that. Every little guy gets millions of dollars in contributions to a foundation and amazingly, those countries and entities who give those millions to the foundation that made she and her husband rich, they get everything from an Iranian deal to special considerations from the U.S. government."
Americans are sick of such corruption, said Huckabee, and "Hillary owns a piece of that and she has to wear that along with her pantsuits all the way to November."
