House Republicans Look at Federal Pay

Republican lawmakers at the state level are working actively to curb the generous compensation provided to government workers. And now Republicans in the House are taking aim at the compensation of federal government employees, The Hill reports.

“Federal employees on average earned $101,628 in total compensation in 2010, nearly four times more than the average private-sector worker,” Florida Republican Rep. Dennis Ross, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee, said at a hearing of the panel Wednesday

President Barack Obama’s two-year pay freeze for federal workers, implemented in December, “wasn’t really a freeze” because it didn’t include all increases, he said. Ross also pointed out that the president’s 2012 budget calls for adding 15,000 federal workers.
