House Democrats have launched a new effort to try force President Donald Trump to release his tax returns.
The Hill reports that the Democratic lawmakers have begun a procedural maneuver called a "discharge petition" for a bill requiring Trump and future presidents and presidential nominees to disclosure their returns.
Bills can go to the House floor for a vote with discharge petitions if a majority of House members sign them, the website said.
But Politico predicted the latest effort to get Trump's taxes will not be successful, since nearly two dozen Republicans would need to sign the petition.
So far, only two Republicans, South Carolina Rep. Mark Sanford and Michigan Rep. Justin Amash, have cosponsored the bill.
And The Hill noted that over the last six weeks, Democrats have unsuccessfully introduced resolutions directing the House to request the president's tax returns.
