The House on Tuesday could pass legislation that would put limitations on President Donald Trump's ability to remove sanctions against Russia, which the president's administration had opposed, according to The Hill.

Both the House and the Senate are likely to pass the bipartisan package that sets stricter sanctions on Russia, Iran, and North Korea, the website reports, and passing it will require a two-thirds majority, which would make it veto-proof if it passes the Senate by a similar amount.

The bill includes sanctions on those three countries, as well as giving Congress the ability to prevent Trump from removing the sanctions. The Trump administration had been against the legislation, but it appears that the president is more likely to sign the bill, The Hill reports.

"He's looking over where it stands exactly at this point, and we'll keep you guys posted on that decision," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday, according to The Hill.

"I think the important part of that is the president pretty much supports sanctions on those countries and wants to make sure they remain, but at the same time he wants to make sure we get good deals, and those two things are both very important for the president."

Announcement that the deal was ready is premature, Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., told reporters, according to Reuters. "We still have a little work to do . . . It's not quite done, but it feels like it's moving to a good place."

The president had been against the legislation. Earlier in July, Marc Short, Trump's Capitol Hill liaison, said it would make the president's job more difficult.

"This bill is so poorly written that neither Republican nor Democratic administrations would be comfortable with the current draft because it greatly hampers the executive branch's diplomatic efforts," Short said.
