Leaders of the House Intelligence Committee investigating Russia Friday asked the White House to confirm and produce any possible tapes of President Donald Trump's conversations with former FBI Director James Comey.

Republican Rep. Mike Conaway of Texas and Democrat Adam Schiff of California set a June 23 deadline for production of "any White House recordings or memoranda of Comey's conversations with President Trump now exist or have in the past" in a letter to White House counsel Don McGahn.

The legislators also asked Comey to produce "any notes or memoranda in his possession memorializing discussions" with Trump, with the same deadline.

The letter came within hours of President Trump refusing to say whether the tapes existed at a news conference in the White House Rose Garden.

"I'll tell you something about that maybe sometime in the very near future," Trump told reporters, later adding: "I'll tell you about it over a short period of time.

"I'm not hinting at anything."
