House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is asking Democrats if they are ready to vote for an official impeachment proceeding and she will make an announcement 6:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday after meeting with her caucus, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Republicans have pressed Democrats for an official vote on the impeachment inquiry Pelosi had announced three weeks ago. Republicans argue without an official vote to begin proceedings, their caucus is not afforded full constitutional ability to call witnesses.

Pelosi's talks Tuesday centered around members in the most competitive and vulnerable districts for 2020 elections, according to the Times' sources.

The official vote would usurp Republicans' talking points about the inquiry being held in secret and a partisan fashion; however, it has been speculated a vote for the impeachment proceedings would be roughly down party lines.

The White House has referenced the lack of an official vote in its refusal to cooperate with the Democratic-led investigation, denying subpoenas for documents and testimony.

"There's no requirement that there be a floor vote," Pelosi had said. "That's not anything that is excluded and, by the way, there's some Republicans that are very nervous about our bringing that vote to the floor."
