Republican leaders in the House of Representatives are considering releasing some of the intelligence behind a memo alleging the FBI abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, CNN is reporting.

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., met with Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., to discuss the possibility to support the findings in the memo, which Nunes and Republican committee staff prepared, CNN reported.

The memo focuses on the FBI's use of a dossier on President Donald Trump and Russia by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, alleging that the FISA judge who signed off on the dossier was not given full information about it, including that Democratic sources paid for it.

Republicans on and off the House Intelligence Committee want the memo to be released and they could use a rule to go around the usual declassification process with a vote that would give President Trump the ability to make the memo public.

"It's like any document you put out, it should be referenced, footnoted — it should have the appropriate underlying reference to the material and to the degree that you can show that material," Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told the news network.

"I think the memo is accurate, but I think just because we know what the other side's argument is going to be, you need that," Jordan added, referring to Democrats who say the findings are partisan talking points and the memo's release will damage relationships with the Justice Department and the intelligence community, CNN noted.

"Their only priority is to protect the president and their political fortune, and they're willing to burn down the FBI and anything else if they need to do it," Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., told the network news. "It would be a real betrayal of the intelligence community for partisan political reasons."

Republicans appear to be pushing forward with their plan to release the document and some intelligence, as long as sources and methods are not revealed.
