House Republican leaders are investigating the sordid behavior of Democrats during their sit-in last month, during which one lawmaker accuses the group of bringing "mob law" to the House floor and trying to instigate a physical fight, CNN reports.

Calling it one of the "most disgraceful and childish breaches of decorum" in history, Tea Party Rep. Tom McClintock is calling for Democrats to be punished for their hardball tactics back in June, the Washington Examiner reports.

"It was obvious the members involved were trying to provoke a physical confrontation," McClintock said. "What we saw was the mob law of Occupy Wall Street, brought to the House floor."

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy confirmed to reporters that the House is investigating the behavior displayed during the 25-hour sit-in, staged by John Lewis and fellow Democrats who were enraged over inaction over gun control legislation, according to CNN.

"Members of Congress (need) to adhere to the rules and the decorum of what is expected of being on the floor," McCarthy said, who added that he and Speaker Paul Ryan were meeting with the sergeant-at-arms Tuesday.

Republicans dismissed the sit-in as grandstanding and charged the Democrats were politicizing the Orlando nightclub massacre.

"Part of this, I think, is a stunt," Ryan told conservative talk show host Charlie Sykes on Tuesday, CNN reports. "Part of this, I think, is a distraction away from the terrorism issue but also if we succumb under populism to reduce a person's constitutional rights, then I believe as a member of Congress, I am violating my constituents to uphold the Constitution."

McClintock wants to see the responsible parties held accountable.

"If we fail to do so, we will have replaced the House rules with rules for radicals," McClintock said, the Examiner reports.
