Journalists Blast WH Claim Media Causes More 'Chaos' Than Russia

Journalists at media outlets around the U.S. blasted White House spokesman Hogan Gidley over comments he made about journalists sowing “chaos” over reporting about the probe into Russia interference in the 2016 election.

“There are two groups that have created chaos more than the Russians and that’s the Democrats and the mainstream media, who continue to push this lie on the American people, and frankly, Americans should be outraged by that,” Gidley said Saturday on Fox News.

“This is patently false—and my guess is Hogan knows as much,” The Washington Post’s White House reporter, Ashley Parker, said in a tweet.

“Repulsive and false,” Politico chief economic correspondent Ben White tweeted.

Zeke Miller, an Associated Press White House reporter, pointed out that the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said Russia engaged in “information warfare.”
Gidley’s statement was a “stunningly unsupported charge against fellow citizens,” Miller tweeted.

“How about no,” CNN White House reporter Kaitlan Collins tweeted.

CNN’s Chris Cillizza said that Gidley’s claim was “patently false.”

“Two things can be true. 1. Russia actively sought to meddle in the 2016 election to help (President Donald) Trump and hurt (Hillary) Clinton. 2. Trump’s victory is totally valid. I don’t understand why the president of the United States can’t grasp that,” Cillizza wrote in a tweet.

Andrew Kaczynski from CNN’s KFile said that Russian hacks of the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign manager John Podesta, and others “caused more chaos,” Kaczynski wrote in a tweet.

“Is this the official position of the White House?” said Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol.
