A new poll found that more Hispanic Democrats are considering leaving their political party than Hispanic Republicans, "by a double-digit margin," The Hill reports.
The bilingual survey was conducted by pollster Eduardo Gamarra, a Democrat and professor at Florida International University in Miami, and was commissioned by Americano Media, according to NBC News.
"The results showed good news, but not great news, for the Republican Party and conservative candidates," Americano President Jorge Arrizurieta wrote in a polling memo obtained by NBC.
"We confirmed what we thought might be true: Hispanic voters are moving toward the center-right, but continuing this trend will require engagement by the party and its candidates," Arrizurieta wrote. "Republicans must show up in the Hispanic community."
Polling data shows that among those who are leaving the Democratic Party, many become independents, though they may agree with Republicans on some controversial issues.
A full 48% of American Hispanics identify as Democrats, while 23% identify as Republicans, according to the survey.
Though President Joe Biden was given a 48% approval rating by Hispanics who were surveyed, former President Donald Trump is favored over Biden, according to the poll.
When asked whom they would vote for if the elections were held today, 20.4% said Trump, while 18.3% said Joe Biden.
Among Hispanic Republicans, 67% disapprove or strongly disapprove of Biden's job performance, whereas 73% of Hispanic Democrats approve or strongly approve.
The poll was conducted over the phone on a random sample of 1,500 Hispanic adults, with a margin of error of +/- 3.5 points.
