Hillary Clinton is polling within two points of Donald Trump in South Carolina, a state that is traditionally a Republican stronghold, with the GOP having won there in the last nine presidential elections.

Public Policy Polling released results from a survey that was conducted August 9 and 10 with 1,290 South Carolina voters.

The poll asked who the voters would choose if the election were held the day they took the poll.

  • Donald Trump: 41 percent
  • Hillary Clinton: 39 percent
  • Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson: 5 percent
  • Green Party candidate Jill Stein: 2 percent
  • Undecided: 13 percent

Both Trump and Clinton are, overall, not popular in the state. The poll found that:

• Trump is viewed unfavorably by 56 percent, and favorably by 38 percent.
• Clinton is viewed unfavorably by 55 percent, and favorably by 38 percent.

The poll suggested that Democrats are more pleased with Clinton as their candidate than Republicans are with Trump as their candidate.

• 84 percent of Democrats would vote for Clinton.
• 77 percent of Republicans would vote for Trump.

The poll suggested that Trump has an advantage among senior citizens, where his favorability rating is 58 percent. Among those under age 65, 41 percent would choose Clinton.

Clinton has taken stronger leads in other polls. She is up 15 points in Wisconsin and an NBC News poll puts her at 10 points above Trump.
