Hillary to Raise Money for NYC Mayoral Hopeful de Blasio

By    |   Thursday, 26 Sep 2013 05:57 PM

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will host a fundraiser next month for New York City mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio.

The Democratic candidate's campaign announced the fundraiser on Thursday, The Washington Post reported. Details are being worked out.

De Blasio, the city's public advocate, is facing Republican Joe Lhota in a bid to succeed three-term Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

He is leading Lhota in the polls by more than 40 points, the New York Post reported Thursday.

The election is Nov. 5. De Blasio won the Democratic primary earlier this month.

Last week, Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, endorsed de Blasio's campaign

"Bill de Blasio has been a friend to both President Clinton and Secretary Clinton for many years," a spokesman for the Clintons said. "They were proud to see him run a thoughtful, creative campaign about the issues, and they are behind him as he moves on to the general election as the Democratic nominee."

Having served in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the Clinton administration, de Blasio worked as campaign manager in Hillary Clinton’s successful run for the U.S. Senate in 2000.

Hillary Clinton is considered a leading Democratic presidential candidate for 2016.
